The inauguration also coincides with the celebration of the International Day of Light.

The project that Qatar has prepared to hold the World Cup in 2022 in its territory, which will have a spectacular infrastructure of 8 stadiums, 7 of which are new constructions, is getting more and more advanced.

An example of this is the inauguration on May 16 of the Al Janoub stadium, the site of the World Cup final, the match that will crown a national team and paralyze millions of people to see who will win the cup.

To show its full potential, this May 16, there will be 40,000 seats for the first historic match of the final of the 2019 Amir Cup, the country's biggest soccer competition. A very special day for Salvi, as it coincides with the international day of light.

And to illuminate this project, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the Spanish company Salvi has developed and interpreted the entire exterior lighting execution, both of the stadium and its surroundings, following the designs of Philippe Almon, lighting designer.

Because this stadium is more. Much more. The inspiration of its forms is based on its tradition, on the sails of the Dhow ships that crossed the Gulf.

It is a stadium, an arena that, in its most futuristic version, recalls the seafaring past of Al Wakrah. Moreover, the interior structure itself and the luminous reflection reminds us of the hull of a ship.

The shape of the stadium hides a remarkably green temperature control method, making its aerodynamic design do much of the work. The roof provides significant shading, taking the weight off advanced cooling systems.

In addition, the surrounding area around the stadium will feature new green spaces of around 90,000 m², with 800 new trees and low-water-use vegetation. The site will include space for horseback riding, jogging tracks and bicycle paths.

To illuminate the entire project, Salvi used 313 poles and 1090 Circus luminaires, a model that also appeals to energy efficiency with independent lenses of high transparency. The poles, in order to provide the desired lighting sensation, have different heights ranging from 5 meters to 16.2 meters.

"Our product is designed for these very special environmental conditions, like all our products, as this is one of our most important markets. We are aware that the product must withstand very demanding climatic conditions, with ambient temperatures above 50 °C and, not least, with resistance to dust and sand winds that can reach up to 160 km/h. For this reason, when we design, in the prototyping phase, we carry out various tests in-house, i.e. in our quality laboratory. In fact, this is not only done by Salvi, but we also work with external laboratories to pass rigorous quality controls," explain the managers of Salvi Lighting Barcelona, who have been in the sector since 1881.

In addition to this, they are also working on the execution of the Al Thumama Stadium, also in Qatar, incorporating poles of up to 20 meters with an elliptical ring with RGB.
