The XLIX Simposium Nacional de Alumbrado was officially inaugurated last May 10 at the Palacio de Congresos de Huesca by Fernando Ibañez, president of the Spanish Lighting Committee, and Luis Felipe Serrate, mayor of Huesca, the city that has hosted this successful edition. The latest edition of the lighting industry's benchmark congress closed this year's 2023 with record attendance.

The expectation was remarkable from the first moments and did not cease during the 3 days of technical sessions thanks to the presence of more than 300 congress participants who did not want to miss this event of reference in the lighting sector. There were a lot of debates, conclusions and new ideas that will resonate in the future and that can be put into practice.

During the National Lighting Symposium, Salvi Lighting participated in a prominent presentation that addressed the topic of photovoltaic power generation and the use of energy in technical lighting. Under the title “Feasibility and Conclusions of Standalone Photovoltaic Power Generation Systems,” a comprehensive analysis of lighting needs in outdoor spaces was presented, focusing on the logic and efficiency of using these systems. The presentation highlighted the importance of properly defining and calculating these systems, as well as using them effectively to determine their feasibility in specific projects. Standards, publicly available calculation systems, and fundamental logical concepts for the use of these solutions were presented. In summary, it was concluded that with proper calculation and implementation, a photovoltaic technical lighting solution can be a viable option for various applications and projects.

Salvi Lighting also participated in another notable presentation titled “Low-Profile Road Lighting: It Works—Go for It!” This presentation summarized the proposal and technological developments presented at the previous symposium. In addition, it showcased several proposals and projects where this innovative solution has been implemented, as well as the specific specifications and conditions for lighting calculations and comparative data analysis.

The presentation focused on the presentation of the road lighting system and the possibilities that this solution offers in terms of material, human and energy resources. Emphasis was placed on the use of LED light sources in a different way from the traditional one, by means of a specific physical treatment of the light instead of luminous refraction technical lenses. The specific photometry of this solution was highlighted, as well as its installation geometry, which requires specific lighting calculations and the use of more precise parameters and reflection tables. In addition, images and data from installations already carried out were presented for comparison with other more conventional solutions in the sector.

In conclusion, it was emphasized that this “low-profile road lighting” solution can be seriously considered as a viable technical alternative in locations where something different, more attractive, and even more efficient is desired, or in places where environmental constraints make it difficult to implement traditional solutions.
